Embarquez avec nous vernissage et conférenceThe Embark with us! photo exhibition offers an intimate look at 8 person with lived experience. These Montreal women living with disabilities are on the move every day as workers, students, mothers and activists, on public transport and on the streets of Montreal. The photos capture their challenges, their daily resistance and their demands in the face of an often hostile and discriminatory environment. The exhibition encourages the public to reflect on everyday behaviors that can make travel safer and more inclusive.

The conference will provide highlights of the action-research initiated by members of the Table des groupes de femmes de Montréal. Data, experiences and testimonials will shed light on forms of violence linked to mobility, sources of insecurity in means of transport and infrastructures, and trust in institutions to guarantee safe travel.

We invite you to join us on December 3 at 2 p.m. or to plan a visit to the exhibition, which will be freely accessible throughout December at the Maison du développement durable.

The event is free and open to the general public.

ABOUT the ACTION-RESEARCH

Women with disabilities are often overlooked when it comes to sustainable mobility. In response, members of the Table des groupes de femmes de Montréal (TGFM) launched an action-research project to document their experiences with sustainable mobility options. The project involved 10 women experts, who kept logbooks, took part in exploratory rides and contributed to co-analysis sessions. Over 150 women also participated via a survey and focus groups.

Mobility is crucial to the social participation and inclusion of these mothers, workers, activists, students and residents. The testimonials highlight various challenges, including the insecurity of adapted transport, exclusion from regular public transit and the many obstacles in public space. This research underscores the urgent need for action to ensure sustainable, inclusive and safe mobility in Montreal, and serves as a starting point for initiating these changes.

The TGFM is a regional multi-sector group with over 80 members, mainly local women's groups as well as women's committees from unions and community groups. Groups come together at TGFM around projects and committees to promote and defend women's rights from a feminist perspective of equality between the sexes and between women.
