Montreal Women's Voices: A Feminist Guide to the 2021 Municipal Election

The municipal election campaign begins on September 17, 2021. The parties and candidates will be campaigning in the coming weeks to represent us and decide the future of Montreal. In partnership with the Conseil des Montréalaises, the Table des groupes de femmes de Montréal has developed a Feminist Guide to the Municipal Elections. This tool aims to support the mobilization and participation of Montreal women during the election campaign.

The guide is structured in four thematic factsheets

  • Why vote? The first factsheet presents the municipal issues that affect the daily lives of Montreal women and the city's main competencies.
  • Who to vote for? The second factsheet explores Montréal's political structure, explaining the decision-making bodies, the various positions up for election and the role of the 103 people who will be elected in November.
  • How to vote? The third factsheet deals with the different ways to choose and question the candidates. It covers the various ways to be informed, make one's concerns heard, and participate in the democratic life that continues long after the elections have been held.
  • What to vote on? The fourth factsheet presents some statistics, issues and demands concerning security, housing, poverty, mobility, ecology and participation. These demands for a more equal, inclusive and accessible city are based on consultations conducted by our two organizations over the past few months.

We hope that this guide will help you generate discussion and make an informed decision.
