YOUR ANTIFEMINISM, OUR REPLIQUES from humor to physical confrontation

“At dinner, a family party or a friendly outing, loved ones tease you to enrage you, justify gender inequalities in front of you, throw out sexist, lesbophobic or transphobic jokes, assert that feminists are exaggerating and that men are suffering from a male identity crisis. In short, you've just been the target of an antifeminist attack in your private life.” Antifeminism takes the form of gestures, words and behaviour designed to slow down or even set back feminists in their fight for women's emancipation.

L'R des centers de femmes du Québec and researchers from UQAM (Francis Dupuis-Déri, professor in the political science department, Mélissa Blais, doctorate in sociology, and Marie-Soleil Chrétien, master's student in political science), as part of UQAM's Service aux collectivités, conducted a study to document the impact of antifeminism on women's lives, but above all, the strategies they implement to fight back. The findings were synthesized and laid out as a practical guide, so that this knowledge is accessible to all, and can be used at both theoretical and practical levels.

This project was also supported by UQAM's Institut de recherches et d'études féministes (IREF) and the Réseau québécois en études féministes (RéQEF).
