Electroshock treatment (ECT) is widely contested throughout the Western world. Patients who are chosen to receive ECT are generally women and often seniors. In Quebec, while only 4,000 sessions of ECT were administered in 1988, over 11,000 took place in 2017. To speak out against this situation, the committee Pare-Chocs held its annual gathering against electroshocks on May 11, the day before Mother's Day.
